Presea de Fray Garcia de San Francisco 2010

Monday, May 9th, 2011 -- FEMAP Founder Guadalupe Arizpe de De la Vega was awarded the Presea de Fray Garcia de San Francisco 2010 by Mayor Hector Murguia Lardizabal. The Presea de Fray Garcia de San Francisco is the highest distinction given to a humanitarian by the government of Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua.

To be considered, a nominee must have gone above and beyond in elevating the quality of life of people in their community through their actions. Juarenses are nominated by individuals, organizations and the various Mexican political parties in Cd. Juarez. For the first time in its history, the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party), PAN (National Action Party) and the PRD (Party of the Democratic Revolution) all agreed on Mrs. De la Vega's nomination.

Mrs. De la Vega was awarded the Presea because of her 37 years of work in the area of health care and prevention. Mrs. De la Vega started in the early 70s be ensuring that women had access to prenatal care and family planning services. In 1973, she opened Hospital de la Famila, a private non-profit low cost hospital. Today, FEMAP boasts of two critical care/in-patient hospitals, a nursing school, a micro-loan/micro-entrepreneur incubator and countless preventive health programs.

The goal is to provide the poor access to high quality medical care and technology at a low cost. Through the provision of high quality low priced healthcare, research and the provision of preventive medicine, FEMAP ensures that:
-Patient morbidity or mortality rates are reduced
-Treat serious or inadequately treated diseases
-Improve the economics of patient care

Among guests at the ceremony were Stephan Hittman, Executive Director of the 911 Foundation and the ex-governor of Chihuahua, Fernanco Baeza Melendez.
