11th Annual Friends of FEMAP International Gala !!
The FEMAP Foundation is pleased to announce Pita Navarro as the 2016 Chair for the 11th Annual Friends of FEMAP International Gala (a Paso Del Norte Challenge Fund Event) to take place on Friday, September 23, 2016.
Pita Navarro is currently completing her pre-medical studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Global Health. Interning at Hospital de la Familia for the past four years, Pita has touched the lives of countless patients and worked closely with the hospital staff to ensure a safe haven for the citizens of Cd. Juarez. During her years at UCLA, Pita has been certified as an Emergency Medical Technician and is a volunteer at Cedars Sinai Medical Center’s Cardiology Department specializing in heart transplants. Pita was born in Houston, Texas, and grew up bi-nationally between Cd. Juarez and El Paso.
“FEMAP Cd. Juarez and FEMAP Foundation have been strong advocate for the U.S. - Mexico border region. At FEMAP, I had the opportunity to experience the magic moment of change from sickness to health, aching to peace of mind, and negligence to enthusiasm. I fell in love with the privilege of empowering people by providing them with the best medical care they deserve. Through health and loving, FEMAP has instilled in me an everlasting passion for health care.
I for one know it to be true that the Friends of FEMAP International and our Gala attendees have been proven that as a region, we are committed to building bridges not of concrete or steel, but of love and compassion. We coexist and celebrate along this shared border and we’ve chosen to not let it separate us. The needs we fulfill are impervious our established border and the generous hearts who answer our call are undeterred by the boundaries as well. Our mission to improve the lives of families throughout our bi-national Region remains steadfast,” says Pita.
The Friends of FEMAP International volunteer group was started in the 1990s. The original group helped raise funds to expand and buy medical equipment for Hospital de la Familia. Today’s Friends hold various functions within the organization, from coordinating the fundraiser gala, to assisting with administrative projects, event planning and publicity.
Now in its 11th edition, the Friends of FEMAP International Gala is one of the most well-attended and supported fundraising events held in the Ciudad Juárez-El Paso community. This is due in large part to the support we have from citizens and companies from both sides of the border.
